“Essentially, science is a journey from ignorance to knowing, from foolishness to wisdom, from mystery to clarity.” – Wee (Ghost Lab)
Join two adventurous doctors as they dive into the supernatural to summon and see ghosts. Did their groundbreaking afterlife experiment land them on the cover of The Experiment magazine? Find out in Ghost Lab!
Synopsis
Meet Gla (Paris Intarakomalyasut) and Wee (Thanapob Leeratanakajorn), two best friends and dedicated doctors. Gla’s fascination with the supernatural begins after he sees his father’s ghost. Wee, intrigued by his friend’s obsession, joins him in the Northern Light Mission after experiencing a ghostly encounter with a burned patient in the hospital. Together, they document their daring experiment to uncover the truth about ghosts.
The experiment takes a terrifying twist when Wee, grieving his mother’s death, volunteers to provide a ‘ghost participant’ for their study. Unable to pull the trigger himself, Gla steps in, sacrificing his life to further their research.
Bringing Gla back from the dead proves far more challenging than anticipated. Wee, overwhelmed with guilt and despair, reaches a breaking point. However, Gla reappears just as Wee contemplates ending his own life on the hospital rooftop.
Wee discovers that Gla’s ghost is driven by powerful emotions like anxiety and revenge. In a desperate bid to communicate with Gla, Wee engages in extreme measures, including self-harm and interacting with Gla’s girlfriend, Mai (Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich). Ultimately, at Gla’s plea, Wee stops these disturbing attempts.

Review Ghost Lab
Ghost Lab stands out by offering a unique twist on the horror genre, blending scientific inquiry with the supernatural and drama plot. Unlike typical horror films that rely solely on scares, this movie delves into logical exploration, making the eerie phenomena intriguing and believable. Expect spine-chilling moments—like wheelchairs moving on their own, documents flying off shelves, and ghostly apparitions—but don’t anticipate constant jump scares.
The heart of the film lies in the dynamic between Wee and Gla. Their friendship, fueled by ambition and a shared quest for knowledge, drives the story. Wee’s relentless pursuit to validate their experiment after Gla’s death is both poignant and unsettling. Gla, on the other hand, grapples with the emotional turmoil caused by the experiment’s consequences.
One of the film’s most gripping scenes is when Wee, in a desperate attempt to connect with Gla, cuts his finger with a paper cutter. Another chilling moment is Wee’s near-fatal encounter with Gla’s vengeful spirit while interacting with Mai.
However, some aspects may leave me puzzled, such as the use of English for written communication between Wee and Gla, despite their spoken Thai. This choice feels inconsistent and somewhat distracting. Additionally, a deeper exploration of their lives as doctors would have added more depth to their characters.
While the film’s conclusion may not offer a definitive scientific breakthrough, it delivers an emotionally charged and thought-provoking ending. Ghost Lab is a must-watch for those who enjoy a blend of horror or supernatural, science and drama, offering a complete cinematic experience. Catch it on Netflix and embark on this haunting and dramatic journey!
